Last weekend , I present two programme at theMemphis Botanic GardenHerb Symposium . The symposium was hold to celebrate the new herb garden there … and there is in spades lawsuit for celebration . The garden is not yet a year old , though most of the plantings are showy and have filled in the space . The collecting of plants is telling , and honestly , I do n’t have it away how the gardeners are keeping it looking so good what with the heat they have down there . Of of course , a watering system help , not to mention the adorable “ pervious ” walkways which tolerate pee to ooze through the pressed textile . It is soundly - see and easy on the feet . There are also big photomosaic throughout the garden walks and herbs pressed in manmade stone .
The garden is sort of circular in anatomy with a midway bed featuring a true laurel tree in the center surrounded by lavender . Four bed surround the center making up quarter of a circle and then there are perimeter bed beyond . All of these beds are full of the more commonly known herbs , lesser screw cultivars , industrial plant that are more strange , and some which I had never seen before . Then there are ghost gardens under big erstwhile Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree featuring forest herb and specimens that need some protection from that blistering Memphis sun .

Friday dark , there was an outdoor receipt in the garden , which was quite lovely with tablecloth mildly swash in the breeze , gorgeous flower agreement from garden herb and heyday on the tables , delicious appetizers and afters prepare by the Memphis Herb Society , as well as live music by Minor Street Strings .
Saturday morning programs featured Richo Cech from Horizon Herbs in Oregon and Steven Foster from Eureka Springs , Arkansas , followed by an herbal box lunch and afternoon breakout sessions with an miscellanea of great herbal political platform , paseo and workshops . We saw older friend and fill circumstances of new herbies and thank Sherri McCalla and all of the nurseryman and stave at the MBG for host such a playfulness and educational outcome in such a beautiful venue .
I encourage you to go visit the fresh Herb Garden at MBG and allow a whole day there so you could play in the Children ’s Garden , the subject ofanother web log post . There is nothing like a sojourn to a wonderful garden for inspiration and hanging out with like - minded tribe !
