SixOnSaturday

It ’s a bit parky out ! -11 degrees here tomorrow in the wind . Perfect weather to kink up in the warm with a blistering drink . Or , if you ’re me , perfect weather to get up early and run 35 kilometre on the frozen footpaths and bridleways of South Oxfordshire . Yes , reverence not , I shall wrap up warm . If I do n’t drowse the whole afternoon aside , I be after to get on with more rosaceous pruning , I still have several to do . In the meantime , let ’s do Six on Saturday . Six thing , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything , you resolve !

Here are my Six for this week .

1 – Echinops seed mind . One of many perennials I have n’t yet get around to cutting back , this clump of genus Echinops is still adding a certain spiky something to the sunny border .

2 – Climbing roses , pruned . Last weekend I braved the elements for a couple of hours . I cut back a few clematis but most of the metre was spent pruning and training a few of my mounting roses . There are two in this flick , ‘ The Pilgrim ’ on the leftfield and the exceedingly thorny ‘ Dr Eckener ’ on the right field . I have telegram at 30 cm ( ish ) intervals up the wall so it was a matter of select suitable stems then carefully bending them into place and tie in . I ’m aim for close to horizontal as this is respectable for encouraging young stem to break . While I was at it , I dispatch all of last year ’s foliage . This is a ‘ just in case ’ measure to slim down the spreading of disease . I ’ve also cleared all the drained leafage from the base of the plant .

3 – Hedera azorica . This gold - fruited English ivy has n’t done a neat peck since I planted it tardy August , but it has begun to send out tendrils . I am hoping this will enshroud a expert section of this fence , it allegedly gets to 10 m if depart to its own devices .

4 – Miscanthus zebrinus . Remember this from a couple of weeks ago ? Its wavy permanent wave has frizzed out significantly into a seedy bouffant .

5 – Yet another rose , pruned . This one is ‘ Mme Alfred Carriere ’ or unbalanced alfie . She has grown sky-high since found last leaping . The stem are quite thin and bendy so comparatively straight to train . This blank is the summit of the house , but quite minute , so I ’m constraining it a little by double it back on itself along the next wire up . Other stems I ’ve just left to farm , with the purpose of training them further up the paries this sentence next year . I ’m hoping for quite a little of flower - posture stems to fall in from the main stems .

6 – Magnolia buds . My gnome magnolia is get ready to burst forth . It will be brilliant for a couple of weeks , smell fabulous too .
