SixOnSaturday

You ’ll be beaming to hear I survive myshenanigansin the Lake District . It was hilly , farsighted , red-hot and very ruffianly . I had some blister issues which slowed me right down towards the conclusion , but I finished the full 100 kilometres in 18h45 . It was worth it for the views …

What with that and travel back down south , no gardening was contemplated never mind attempted last weekend . This weekend we are at a festival all day Sunday ( 31 arcdegree , no shade ! ) , so what gardening I can do this weekend will have to match into Saturday . I require to get the irrigation up and running , and I have dahlias that really postulate planting . Oh , and the mid - summer wisteria prune is delinquent . And the virginia creeper naughtily involve a trimming ( it is turn 2 foot INTO the bathroom on a higher floor ) . Er , and the lawn need pout . Deadheading . corroborate . Weeding . Watering . Sigh .

While I break down to get most of that done , let ’s do Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything , you resolve !

Here are my Six for this week .

1 – Telekia , flower this time .

2 – Monarda ‘ smorgasbord ? ’ . I planted three of these , comme il faut sized works all , and the slugs had a bit of a go at them . They have recuperate some poise , as you may see , plenty of flowers now . I ’m hop they make a enough clump over time . I grow monarda from ejaculate once , I do n’t commemorate the flowers being as heavy as these , they ’re the sizing of a enough apple , quite prominent .

3 – Potentilla fruticosa . This is one of my best-loved shrubs in the garden . It quietly does it ’s affair , not getting to a fault big , and prime its socks off for months . It just needs a light prune in the spring , the work of moments .

4 – Helenium ‘ Sahin ’s other Flowerer ’ . I ’ve done a bad thing . I carve up small glob of these , perhaps untimely , and then did n’t really water them , so I think I will get small return from that . We ’ll see . fortuitously , there was one clump I forget about , in a tidy sum on the terrace . That is just starting to flower .

5 – Clematis jackmanii . I forget I ’d institute this , intended to be a companion to my very vigorous C. ‘ Rebecca ’ . This year I recollect it has blossom more strongly than becky .

6 – Verbascum ‘ Snowy spire ’ . Another flora I forgot I planted . I uprise this one from seed last yr , one of the few to escape the apocalypse of disuse in my glasshouse . I almost pulled it out as a suspected weed . I ’m glad I did n’t , it ’s flowering now , it ’s rather pretty .
