Rugosa Friulani
I ’m trying a new variety of zucchini this year calledRugosa Friulana . It isa yellow , warty zucchini . It is develop 5′ away from my best-loved green courgette , Costata Romanesco . Both are Italian varieties . I recall I ’d grow both and liken them .
COMPARSION

Rugosa Friulani
BUGSI cover both plants with row cover after planting by seeds in belated May . virile peak always come along first with squash , and then the distaff flower ( with their little fruit attach at the base of the flower ) appear . After the distaff flowers seem , I uncovered them both so the bee could get in to cross-pollinate them . By keeping them covered too soon on , I avoided the Squash Viner Borer which appear earlier in the season and is gone by the time the female blossom appears .
-TheCostata Romanescoattracts squash bugsand I break up the adults and eggs off of the plant .
TheRugosa FriulanaDIDN’T ATTRACT SQUASH BUGS IN MY GARDEN.That fact alone will make me farm it again . It ’s only 5′ awayCostata Romanesco , so you ’d think it would attract the squash glitch but it did n’t . How thrilling is that !

Costata Romanesco
PRODUCTION - TheCostata Romanescostarted producing zucchini 2 weeks ago - mid - July
-TheRugosa Friulanajust bring on the first fruits now - Aug 7 . Not that much deviation .
Costata Romanesco

crop
crop when Friulana is 6 - 8″ long . I have let them get bigger but they got woody and hard skinned so harvest time sooner when they are smaller . The one in the motion picture is bigger than 8″.
TASTENow comes the taste trial . I slice both and sauteed them in olive crude with only garlic saltiness .
TheCostata Romanescotends to have less dense flesh and has a odorous buggy flavour . When you slit it into discs , it has beautiful fluted sides . It has always been my favourite .
TheRugosa Friulanahas denser material body when you foreshorten into it ( I like that ) and has a slightly different feeling ( hard to name but sort of nutty too ) . When you cut it into disc , it also has ruffly side from the warts . I care it just as well .
So if you only want to grow one zucchini plant , you might considerRugosa Friulana – very flavorful andsquash glitch insubordinate .
Both are really just but just knowingRugosa Friulanamight not draw in squash hemipteran make me want to grow it again . What a pleasant surprise !
afterward musical note : Someone write me and said they did get squash bug with it but I have not had that problem . So I should say it is crush hemipterous insect resistant . That is still good enough for me .
