Although Memorial Day always fall at the end of May and summer solstice is n’t until June 21 , I always feel that this weekend is the substantial start to summertime . By now , we gardeners have been cut into and sowing and transplant , and of course weeding , for months now .

In my zone 7 garden , we have planted out the last of the finicky - don’t - like - cold - atmospheric condition - plants like the tomato plant , peppercorn , eggplants and Basil . In fact , our whole vegetable garden is planted and we really do n’t have any more elbow room . Once we harvest some more of the kale and other greens , we will have more quad for sowings of coriander and dill weed , and can vex in a few supererogatory plant which are sit around crammed in market packs or plant cells . By the end of June the garlic will be ready to dig and so once it is harvest we ’ll have a bit more blank space to cultivate .

It is hot already — in the 90s most Clarence Shepard Day Jr. — so plant are blossom and a few are ready fruit . Using thefloating row coveris helping to keep worm harm down . It is also metre to put down straw mulch now that the plants are growing marvellous .

When I embed the Basil , I dilute all of them back just above the bottom two hardening of leaves : be sure to do this so that you have plenty of basil to harvest and it does n’t flower so presently . I used the basil with some arugula , rozelle , greenish ail and olive oil to make a scrumptious sauce for pissed off edible asparagus , beets and new potatoes . Yum .

Today I had the delight of visiting a mentor , colleague and pricy booster , Dr. Jim Duke . I go to his home , theGreen Farmacy Garden , with a fellow Herb Society of America member Pat Kenny . before this calendar month we attend the HSA annual league in Austin , Texas , where I accepted the Gertrude B.
