Revisiting a growing garden
Today we ’re off to Finland to catch up with Kate and Pekka Schneider .
We first wrote to submit pic in February 2017 ( A Special Property in Finland ) . It ’s a few years later , and we ’d like to offer our fellow gardeners an opportunity to see how thing have progressed from those early year . Come chit-chat us in Finland via the comfort of your own home !
We continue to create newfangled bedding spaces , which often include new project hardscapes andtrellises . Now that a bulk of the conifers and tree diagram have put on some size , I ’ve begun establish masses of perennial amid them : Nepeta , Salvia , spring and summertime anthesis lilies , and several varieties ofHostain the shadier arena . At various intervals throughout the season we are ravish with color , fragrance , form , andtexture .

The plant specimen list has blossom ! The rose garden now boast over 200 items . High summer is a splendid time , with the waft smell of roses in the breeze . Later , the extravagantly placedhydrangeassteal the show with enormous prime head that are seen throughout the border . ( We have more than 170 ! ) With Finland ’s tardy summer sunsets , it ’s possible to touch in late evening delectation .
I center over hundreds of late photos hoping to discover mate to those photo from 2017 , but it prove very difficult . I have include several photos that evidence our right fate and provide excellent examples of what we have attain .
Paeonia‘Coral Charm ’ ( zona 3–7 ) has been a stunner year after year . Splendid !

In this view of our backyard in other spring 2020 , the hydrangea have been pruned ( I prune all our ‘ Limelight ’ and ‘ Annabelle ’ close to the ground every match of years ) , and the whole thousand has been tidy up after wintertime . Here you may seePiceaconica‘Glauca ’ ( Zones 3–6),Thujaoccidentalis ‘ Holmstrup ’ and ‘ Smaragd ’ ( Zones 2–7 ) , andAcerplatanoides ‘ Drummondii ’ ( variegate Norway maple , Zones 3–7 ) .
This photo of the same daub from August 2015 is a reminder of what was here before we get in — not much !

Our side yard feature a large birch Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree at the center . These beds are the upshot of enlarge a previous seam in the same home . This bed has seen the most rework of all our other garden beds . Four times we ’ve enlarged and reshape this layer . It ’s done now !

Winter snow in our side grounds with a southeastern situation . The green trellis support the uprise ‘ Ghislaine de Feligonde ’ . There are matureapple treesin the background . The grim trellis overlooks a pool feature of speech and supports the rose ‘ Prince ’s Trust ’ .
We are now entering the 5th year at Vanha Talo Suomi . We could n’t be more lofty and delighted at how well our garden has performed . what is more , we are very thankful for the enthusiasm our garden has received from visitant close and far , and we look onward to the next time we can launch the garden to the world for Open Garden Day ( Avoimet Puutarhain Finnish ) .
