If you stepped inside Brittany Weerts ’ greenhouse , the first thing you would notice is how beautiful , colorful , and organized the plants look . hold groovy sentence and item to keep the greenhouse looking its best is just another solar day in the life of Brittany Weerts , who take in a bachelor-at-arms ’s degree inhorticulturefrom Purdue in 2018 .
“ Each petite plant holds so much potentiality , and I have a direct role in making that come alive , ” she explain . “ Everything I do affect the development of nursery stock . ”
Weerts is an assistant grower at Utopian Plants , the sister company ofBrehob Nurseriesin Indianapolis . She said she often has her hands full . She is creditworthy for the flora , pruning , potting , go after inventory , and monitoring the plants ’ maturity and health . She grew up in rural Remington , Indiana , which spur her love for nature and all things immature .
But her love for the horticulture diligence started with a part - prison term line of work at Markle Farm & Greenhouses in Monon , Indiana . Being able to do hands - on workplace outdoors , particularly work that involved nature , was what hook her involvement and began her passionateness for plant , Weerts say .
From there , she decide she wanted to make a life history of it , so she extend to Purdue to study gardening . She sensed an clamant fit within the horticultural programs and loved the exuberance of the faculty members .
Weerts describes gardening as demanding , exciting , and satisfy , all at once . At Brehob , she is responsible for meg of dollar bill ’ worth of plant . Weerts find the work that she does to be important .
For her , the work is about more than just aesthetics . Weerts said the most crucial donation of horticulture is that it maintain our world green , shaded , and beautiful . She believes that plant and the greenhouse industry are take for granted .
“ Imagine a region without trees , or a metropolis without common , or a home without at least a few flower . gardening aid us live happier , safer lives , ” Weerts said .
That ’s why Weerts wants to kick upstairs more awareness about horticulture and to exalt others to learn more about it . She does that by spreading the word about the importance of horticulture . She also encouraged those wait for a career to think about opportunities in gardening .
“ There are not many people currently infix this champaign . If people present themselves well , they have a chance at have a peachy career , ” she said .

Like the plants she cares for , Weerts sees her current job as a fortune to grow .
“ There are so many acquisition and roles that go into this industry , ” she explain . “ Right now , I ’m just soaking in all I can about get , and pay aid to areas where I course stand out . ”
She sound out she may prove working in other areas of the industry , such as communications or marketing , but for now , Weerts say she enjoy the hands - on engagement and challenges that her life history offers . She sleep with that it is making a difference .
“ I jazz knowing that the plant that I ’m growing today will finally be in someone ’s yard bloom . Care for them well , and we get to observe it mature and blossom into something that will put a smile on somebody ’s cheek . ”
