A walk down Queen Street
Cherry Ong is again taking us along to visit beautiful gardens , this meter planting in Niagara - on - the - Lake in Ontario .
One of the top reasons I love walking along Queen Street in Niagara - on - the - Lake is to experience the awing summertime one-year showing along the street and fronting the stores and hotels . I walk the street twice to analyse the garden andcontainer - garden designs(patterns and colors and all ) hoping to take breathing in home with me for implant my ownsummer garden .
This photo along the Prince of Wales Hotel includes spectacularwindow boxesplanted withStreptocarpella saxorum ( Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) andPetuniahybrids ( Zones 9–11 or as an annual ) .

This view of the hotel , show the planter boxwood full of bloom on the fence around the littlepatio arena .
This study in leaf people of colour includes tall papyrus(Cyperuspapyrus , geographical zone 9–11 or as an one-year ) at the top get through lime - green coleus(Plectranthusscutellarioideshybrid , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) , which contrasts with the coppery - colored sweet white potato vine vine(Ipomoeabatatas , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) , and zebra plant(Tradescantiazebrina , Zones 10–11 , or as an annual or houseplant ) . A few blooms of wishbone flower(Toreniahybrid , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) are scatter here and there but are all upstaged by the great leaves around them .
Hostas(Hostahybrid , Zones 4–9 ) and Japanese timberland grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) are always a good combination . Both flourish in theshadeand have beautiful contrasting and complementingtextures .

Mandevilla(Mandevillahybrid , Zones 10–11 or as an annual)vinesgive a great vertical emphasis in this planting . Most mandevilla are twining tropical vines , but some of the newer varieties stay as shorter , bushy plants . Both are beautiful , but the vine are very useful for adding height toannualplantings .
There d flowersof the mandevilla vines are intense .
These huge , dramatically colored elephant ’s ears(Colocasiahybrid , Zones 7–10 or as an yearly ) take care all the more intense for being geminate with bright lily-livered - green sweet-scented potato vine .

Purple spider plant(Tradescantiapallida , Zones 7–10 or as an yearly ) makes a dark background for this igneous planting : New Guinea impatiens(Impatienshawkeri , Zones 10–11 or as an annual),coleus , and sensationalistic cannas(Cannahybrid , Zones 7–10 or as an annual ) .
A pink Rieger begonia(Begoniahybrid , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) require center stage in this planting . These hybridbegoniasare abundant bloomers and generally perform best in climates with cooler summers .
splendid orangeness canna and coleus foliation is the whizz here , back up by a nerveless ring of purplepetunias .

Toning matter down a little , this planting is a advanced mix of whitened flowers and the purpleness leaves ofStrobelanthes dyerianus ( zone 10–11 or as an one-year ) .
A final container is also elegant in its simplicity : white variegated caladium(Caladiumhybrid , Zones 9–11 or as a tender bulb ) and spider plant(Chlorophytum comosum , Zones 8–10 or as an annual or houseplant ) , with the vivid yellow foliage of creeping Jenny(Lysimachianummularia‘Aurea ’ , Zones 3–9 ) .
