Pollinator garden in Ontario
Today ’s photos are from Julianne Labreche in Ottawa , Ontario .
I am a Master Gardener who gardens and volunteers my skills in Ottawa . A few yr ago , I remove all the grass in the front railyard and create apollinator gardenfor bees and butterfly stroke . Then when that projection was finished , I created agarden for the birdsin the backyard .
These two space have a very different flavor . Thefront yardis smart and sunny , filled with colored flowers . The backyard is shady and protected , like a mini - timber , provide nesting home ground , food , and pee for local hiss .

It ’s always fun to begin with seeds . These nasturtiums(Tropaeolummajus , one-year ) , whose flowers and folio areedible , will produce lots of efflorescence over the summertime months .
By June 21 , the blanket flower(Gaillardiaaristata , Zones 3–8 ) is in bloom in the front garden . It get its name because it slowly blankets an area with flowers . It is surrounded by bee balm(Monarda , Zones 4–9)and tickseed(Coreopsis , Zones 4–9 ) and many varieties of herbs .
I wish to try out by adding newnative plant . Here is one that I constitute just this fountain , forebode prairie coneflower(Ratibidacolumnifera , Zones 4–9).It seems to grow well in my hayfield - style garden .

Garden artis always fun in a pollinator garden . This one , made by a local creative person , is locate in the middle of a daylily seam . Many of these plants were contribute to me by family members .
Sometimes simple plants are the good . I love the disgraceful - eyed Susan(Rudbeckiahirta , Zones 3–7 ) with the backdrop of ‘ Karl Foerster ’ feather reed grass(Calamagrostis×acutiflora‘Karl Foerster’,Zones 5–9 ) .
To attract the pollinator , I growJoe Pye weed(Eutrochium , Zones 4–9 ) , swamp milkweed(Asclepiasincarnata , Zones 3–6 ) , and other sort ofmilkweed . I had my first monarch butterfly stroke sighting just yesterday .

These fibre bag are utile because they ’re not too grievous and they take into account me to mix and match plants around the garden . I like to mix annuals and perennials in these bags , rotating them around the garden .
cherry-red runner beans(Phaseolus coccineus , annual ) are easy to grow and welcomehummingbirdsto my backyard garden . The native cardinal flower(Lobeliacardinalis , Zones 3–9 ) is a hummingbird attractive feature . It prefers damp dirt .
There are lots of native shrub and trees in the backyard deliver fruit and seeds for birds . Notice the crosscut rub , or beat tree , that attract many insects and therefore pecker , chickadee , and nuthatches .

Even though I garden for wildlife , I enjoy beauty too . I particularly like toughened , easy - to - grow plants such as this ‘ Jackmanii ’ clematis(Clematis‘Jackmanii ’ , Zones 4–8 ) with its big , regal blooms that twines luxuriously on the back deck of cards every class .
