Turning trimmings into bouquets
Today we ’re off to San Diego to shoot the breeze with Catherine Dickerson .
One of the things I roll in the hay about growing lots of flowers is the abundance ofbouquetsthat issue forth from the necessary trim and clean up . I used to sound off that most of my study here in San Diego is hacking and trim . Now I call back of it as tender care , and that geological fault in perspective makes it all very gratifying .
For over half the year , we have the delectable lavishness of blossom in every elbow room . Here are a few bouquet .

A little powder - room bouquet of overgrown cerinthe(Cerinthemajor , annual ) and geranium .
More cerinthe , with broken snapdragons(Antirrhinummajus , annual ) and trimmed ligustrum(Ligustrumspecies ) .
honeyed peas(Lathyus odoratus , one-year ) in front of two Moses - in - a - boat(Tradescantiaspathacea , Zones 9–11 or as a houseplant ) , the first of the latter I ’ve been able-bodied to arise after failing with several . angelical pea plant have to be cut daily , as they festinate to produce seeded player , which of row reduce flowering . I get most of my vases from local estate gross sales — on Sunday afternoon when the Leontyne Price are curve in one-half . This vase is a gem I bring home from a Jacob’s ladder store in the UK while visiting my babe over 10 years ago .

An teemingness of alstromeria(Alstromeriahybrids , Zones 8–10 ) . We have this very determined and talkative plant growing in five colors around our M . The orange ones grow to 5 feet magniloquent . visitant often go home with a large fragrancy .
A meek number of reveal - stemsnapdragonand trimmedligustrum .
Lots of sweet pea ! The purple flowers outdoors in the background signal are cineraria(Pericallis× hybrida , Zones 9–10 or as an yearly ) . We brought two from a head trip to Northern California a few years ago , and they reseed every year . A vigorous genus Abutilon is develop behind them . ( The sign in the window has photo of our cats , in caseful of pinch . )

And last but not least , my first ever cauliflower . Broccoli , beets , kale , Spinacia oleracea , assortedlettucesand snow peas are delightful , but not as photogenic .
Thanks so much for this chance to partake these wonderful treasures with the great unwashed who share the same groovy joy !
