Celebrating the Vernal Equinox with ‘Christmas Cheer’

So it ’s prescribed , it ’s the first Clarence Shepard Day Jr. of spring .   Winter is off with his tail between his legs,‘thelark ’s on his annexe , the snail ’s on the thorn’and concord to Shakespeare , snort are singing : ‘ Hey ring a gouge , ding’ . The footling lambs are frolicking in the sphere and nurseryman are frolicking in their gardens and if you heed carefully they are probably singing ‘ Heyring a dent , ding’too . This marvellous time of the twelvemonth is a joyful time for everyone , but especially gardeners . The garden feels like a huge , light-green jewel box pour forth out ever more sparkling gems .

Rhododendron‘Christmas Cheer’

Rhododendron‘Christmas sunshine ’

This lovely rhododendron is peculiarly mention as it usually flower in March . It is the earliest flower one I have but I do n’t have very many . My filth is n’t blistering enough , ( i.e. below PH7 ) so all my rhododendron have to hold out in pots in ericaceous compost . This one is particularly suited to a potful as it is quite compact and has a nice dome shape . It is slow growing and does n’t get more than 4 ft . I often wondered why it is called ‘ Christmas Cheer ’ when it blooms in springiness . Apparently for the deep with heated up glass houses it used to be squeeze for Christmas flower arrangement . The bud are dead frost stalwart but once the flowers open they have to be protect , but then magnolia blossom have the same problem . This yr they have been spare so far . I love its pink frothiness . The peak are frilly and get whiter with age but at this point they look as if they have bird juice swirled into them . When I was six I longed for a party dress in this colouring material . These days I have no desire to wear off pinkish flounce but I still enjoy them in in my leap flower .

I hope you enjoy every minute of the new season in your lovely gardens .

That is a gorgeous Rhody . Thank you for sharing it as a symbol of the new time of year .

I DO love Rhododendrons , another on the long leaning of plants I ’m ineffective to arise in my mood , although I did ignore local counseling and strain once anyway . It ’s safe to say that natural spring is well afoot here , although we have another slender chance of rain today . Rain = winter in our standard playbook .

Yes , interesting name for that Rhododendron , but it sure is a pretty one ! Happy spring !
