A gardener’s progress toward the garden of his dreams
Today we ’re visiting Donald LaGrand ’s garden in Somerset , California .
These exposure are from October . The property is just over 4 Accho and lies at the foothills of the Sierra Mountains just west of Lake Tahoe . My dream as a gardener is to have a distance crowing enough to create a landscaped area with a monolithic flower bed , a large veg garden with a raised bed , a rose garden , a large pool with a waterfall , and fruit tree , along with way of life and benches to encourage guests to meander about with a potable of their choice in hand as they relish the quiet surroundings . A uncomplicated raised bed with yellow bearded iris diaphragm ( Iris germanica , Zones 4–9 ) .
An assortment of flowering lavender plants ( Lavandulaspecies and hybrids ) that convey beautiful color and , of course , marvelous sweetness to the garden . Lavenders come from the Mediterranean , and so they adapt attractively to the similar climate of California .

A variegated lavender . There are several variegated lavender on the grocery store , but this looks to be the striking variety ‘ Platinum Blonde ’ ( Lavandula angustifolia‘Platinum Blonde ’ , Zones 6–9 ) .
A beautiful coreopsis ( Coreopsis ) crossbreed blooming away . tick-weed breeding has pass on by spring and bounds in late years , so if you have n’t produce these plant in a while , it is well deserving exploring the novel colors , habit , and flower form now on the market place .
A young fuschia in a pay heed basket . The nod flowers are perhaps well appreciated when they whirl around over the bound of a basket .

A scene of the setting for this garden .
Of course , it would scarce be California without some picturesque row of grapevines , perhaps just hold back to be made into a “ beverage of choice ” to enjoy while saunter through the garden .
