Startling plants at the end of the season
Carol Verhake is sharing some photos of her favored garden plant life . I trust you ’ll send in your favorite as well !
Here in Berwyn , Pennsylvania , in my Zone 6/7 garden , I delight the transition to autumn . The changing foliage colouration is patent in the vibrant yellow of my bottlebrush buckeye(Aesculusparviflora , Zones 5–9 ) and hickory trees(Caryaspecies , Zones 4–8 ) , and I adore the red - Orange River color of myStewartia(Zones 5–9 ) . My variegated stellar pink dogwood(Cornus‘Variegated Stellar Pink ’ , Zones 5–9 ) is beautiful all time of year long , but its leafage become tinged in pink as the fall progresses , an heart - catching look especially when backlit .
In the flower section , I love the orchid - like flowers of myTricyrtis(toad lily , Zones 4–8 ) ; I only care the cervid did n’t love them too ! The berries on myCallicarpa dichotoma‘Early Amethyst ’ ( beautyberry , Zones 5–8 ) steal the show with their intense color , and I care watching the birds love them even if it means fewer berry for me to look up to . I like spending clip in my garden for as long as I can . My firepit makes some relaxing moments potential even as the temperature come down and the days shorten .

I like using what ’s available in the garden for transition containers . I usedredtwig dogwood , Osmanthus , conifer greens , and dry out hydrangea blossom to carry a fall container into the winter time of year .
Bottlebrush conker get their name from their spikes of white flowers in the summer , but their drop color is pretty spectacular as well .
Callicarpadichotoma‘Early Amethyst ’ is arresting in the nightfall , with brilliant majestic berries that last until the raspberry finish eating them up .

Clippings from the garden transform a container into a beautiful arrangement for the wintertime .
The firepit helps take the edge off parky fall and wintertime days .
Tall hickory Tree in their autumn glory catching the sun .

Stewartiahave lovely flowers and bark , but it is grueling to beat their pin people of color .
Many plants for the shadowiness garden flush in the spring , butTricyrtisbucks the course by putting out these intricate blooms in the fall .
The leaves of variegated stellar pinkdogwoodflush an incredible shade of pink as they start to change colour for the drop . This variety has a beautiful display of pinkish flower in the outpouring , but it is hard to conceive of they could be as beautiful as these leaves .
