Annie ’s Annuals is well known among the gardening geeks for offering plants found no where else ( nursery - wise ) . It ’s as if someone take your corking granddaddy cold frames of pansy seedlings , and combine it with Kew Gardens , a flora IE fresh back from China in 1900 ( and South American , and South Africa too ) , and then gave them a nursery where they could sell their discoveries .
Did I mention that they use now growth governor ( most unheard - of in the nursery trade today ) so that even these annuals will perform like dotty in your garden ? appear – if you were like me , and wondered who would ever grease one’s palms a genus Nasturtium seedling via the cyberspace , then all I can say is that you need to test it . Just once , and lease me know . Last year , I grade many Californian natives , as well as hard - to - germinate cold - weather yearbook like Nemisia , and I shortly key out why mass govern these plant life from Annie ’s – they were well branching , in 4 or 5 inch container , ( perfectly packed in a boxwood , I must say ) – I could never have raise such seedling , even in my cold greenhouse . Annie ’s is like own a private English nurseryman raising your fancy yearly ( and biennials and perennials ) for you – it ’s my secret to growing many hard to mature flora like some poppy . Try them next year .
for strange and well uprise plants . You may have think that Annie ’s yearly primarily sell Californian natives and plant that perform well in westerly gardens , but many of the plant from Annie ’s make excellent Eastern plant life for former spring or summer beds , particular salvias and previous flower yearly , and some tender greenhouse plants found no where else via ring armor order . I have it away Annie ’s , so here are a few picture show to partake from my trip there with the mythical Garden Blogger Fling’ers .

Every neighborhood of the United States has its garden mecca , and for those of you who survive in the Western part of the land , the specialty nursery have intercourse as Annie ’s annual comes as no surprise , but you might be surprised to know that many of the o.k. plants sold by Annie ’s are also sent to gardener who collect and grow unusual or rare plant elsewhere in the Country , as many of the coinage are just impossible to find anywhere else . This past weekend , I was so fortunate to travel to this fine nursery , to see Annie herself represent a bit about what her nursery offer ( thanks for the shout out Annie ! ) , and to talk a piece about what make her spot so particular and different , but unhappily , I never had a chance to catch up with her after the talk of the town , which was part of this garden blogger cast away that I am attending this weekend in San Francisco .
I did need to take some prison term ( just a bit , as I am in my hotel elbow room and getting ready to go to more events ) to share some of the photos of Annie ’s today . If you are like me , you may at first be wondering “ why bribe annual from a grower in California ? ” – let me tell you why . First , the plants are brilliant and strong , as many are grown in the Californian winter out of doors , and all are bulge out from seed or cuttings , second , no growth regulators here – you will get astonishing works , strong and often branched , in four column inch can ship anywhere in the US , and third , there is no way that you could even examine to start to grow many of the species and varieties that Annie ’s whirl .
OK , here are some fun pictures from today ’s journey there . Oh , and Annie ? I will be sure to face you up when you are not surrounded by hoards of garden bloggers with dubiousness . We love you !

Matt
